For all of you who thought I may have fallen off the face of the earth this letter is to assure you, I have not. December was far too busy to send cards or letters and a former roommate taught me that if December is too busy, Valentines Day is a great alternative (Thanks Cind).
I started off 2003 by loosing my job along with around 200 others. My department was closed and rather than join the ranks of unemployment I took an alternate job in Cleveland. That turned out to be a grave mistake and so in August I moved back to Kalamazoo to start my own business. I am now working from home and I love it My endeavors include writing Web sites, restoring images digitally, producing memory disks, and teaching graphic design, web design and publishing at a local community college. I’m broke but happy and that is far more important than money. The 10 second commute to my office (a spare bedroom) is fabulous and I love the dress code. If you’re tired of the office I highly recommend this lifestyle. I work a bazillion hours a week and love every minute of it.
But
life is not all work. I have had plenty of wonderful play time. In April I joined
my friend, Sharon, in Cayman Brac for
a relaxing week of sun and surf. In June my sister, Ellen, and I hiked Zion
National Park and Bryce Canon National
Park. In October I found myself at my cousin’s
wedding in Sacramento and took a side trip to hike Yosemite
National Park. This time my brother, Ted, joined Ellen and I for the hike
and some sibling bonding. It was great and we hope that Ted will join us for
all of future hikes. Fall was full of football
games and getting my business started.
I
still practice TaeKwonDo and in July I
earned a spot on Team Michigan to compete in the AAU National TaeKwonDo Championships
in Knoxville Tennessee. This was particularly sweet since Ellen was also competing
for Team New Jersey. Ellen took home two gold metals and I took a gold,
silver, and bronze. To end the year on an even higher note I earned my Black
Belt on December 20th. Throughout December I trained 3 to 5 hours a day. Thus…no
Christmas cards were sent.
The day after my Black Belt test I took my Mom and my sore aching body to Florida to spend the holidays with Ted. The weather was warm and cooperative and outside of Ted coming down with the flu we had a wonderful time.
So that was 2003. I anticipate 2004 to be just as wonderful. I hope you are finding the same joy in your life as I am in mine.
Bugsy and I would like to wish you the best of this holiday and every one to come.
